Medtronic Academy - MedTech LMS

Creating Medtronic Academy – a Totara-based medtech LMS with CMS integration, serving 300k+ learners across 100+ countries.

01

The client and their environment

Medtronic plc is one of the world’s leading healthcare technology providers, known for innovation in medical devices.
The company is headquartered in Ireland, with its main operational base in Minnesota, USA. It supplies products and systems to healthcare organisations, hospitals, clinicians, and patients.
As a truly global company, Medtronic’s training needs to be unified worldwide, while reflecting the cultural and language differences of a diverse network of employees, customers and partners.

02

The training challenge

A key part of Medtronic’s business is selling medical devices to hospitals and care partners worldwide.

Medtronic Academy site is their way of providing training via elearning and events, both in-person and via Zoom integration.

Other business units had various Totara LMS running in different regions independently, which led to complicated stakeholder management and a lack of cohesion.

Following successful work with us at Webanywhere for their Cardiac division in the US, they brought us in to create a unified Totara Learn LMS to simplify training, along with a new frontend website

03

Our solution

Webanywhere worked closely with Medtronic on a multi-year project to develop a custom frontend website and bespoke CMS.
This rendered elearning content from Totara Learn LMS.
The project combined data from multiple Totara instances for various business units across the USA and Europe.
There were also multiple smaller parallel projects to develop and deploy specific functionality, such as custom integration with Coveo for AI searchZoom for events, Cvent for event management, Snowflake for business intelligence, data analytics, and more.

The result

  • Large scale – 300k learners – with a global user base
  • An engaging training website with a fully bespoke CMS, which sits in front of the Totara LMS
  • Simplified training across multiple territories
  • Reduced client costs by consolidating their learning management systems.
  • Extensive, seamless integrations (Coveo, Zoom, Cvent, Snowflake and more)
